After Reported Unhappiness, Devendra Fadnavis Says He Chose Eknath Shinde

Devendra Fadnavis Maharashtra Deputy Chief Secretary, Tuesday, stated that he has proposed to BJP leadership Eknath Shinde, who rebelled against Shiv Sena leadership as chief minister. This was after last week’s collapse of MVA government.

Fadnavis admitted to having mental problems and was willing to accept the role of deputy chief minister. However, he changed his mind after a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Also, intervention from JP Nadda (BJP president) and Amit Shah (Union home minister), helped him change his mind.

Mr Fadnavis said that the BJP leadership believed that he should be part of the government as it was not right to run the government through an “extra-constitutional authority”.

Speaking to journalists in Nagpur Mr Fadnavis stated that the BJP-Shiv Sena alliance won the 2019 election, but that the mandate had been “stolen”. He said that his party was a coalition of the Shinde and Shiv Sena parties, but not to win power.

“Our leaders NarendraModi ji and Amit Shah were consulted and, with their approval, the decision to make Shinde the chief Minister was made )…. “I made this suggestion to the BJP leadership that Shinde be appointed chief minister. They (the leadership) agreed,” said Mr Fadnavis.
