According to reports, eleven of the 24 are in custody at present.

An angry mob set fire to the Batadrava station on May 21st, following the death in custody of Safikul Islamic (39) a fish trader from the area. The Assam Police allegedly held Safikul, a fish trader, in the evening just a day prior to the victim’s death.
Safikul died after his family claimed that Rs 10,000 was demanded by police to get their release. Safikul’s widow discovered that her husband was being taken to Nagaon Civil Hospital when she reached the station.
She found her husband dead at the station, and the family became agitated.
Following the arrest of Safikul and his death in custody by police, the Director General Police (DGP), suspended the Batadrava Police Station Officer-In Charge (OC).
