As heavy rains lashed Mumbai and its suburbs last night and early this morning, parts of the city witnessed waterlogging and heavy traffic causing inconvenience to the residents.
Photos tweeted by news agency ANI depicted Sion streets flooded. Also, Andheri was filled with people who were seen wading through water up to the knee.
According to officials, flooding on low-lying areas along with railway tracks has affected bus and train service in some places.
India Meteorological Department, (IMD), has foreseen “moderate to severe rainfall” in Mumbai and its environs. There is also the potential for “very heavy or extremely heavy” rains at some places over the next few days.
Officials stated that the National Disaster Response Force teams (NDRF), were deployed to the city following the Weather Department’s alert.
