After the Indian Meteorological Department issued a red alert and predicted heavy rainfall for coastal Karnataka, all schools and colleges were closed in that area. In Mangaluru, one person was killed in a storm-related accident.
The heavy rains have disrupted the normal lives of coastal residents and Malnad, Karnataka. Rains caused damage to homes, buildings, electric poles, and property in the affected areas. Rivers also swollen from downpours, flooding agricultural fields, and low-lying areas.
After a landslide in Panjikallu village (30 kms from Mangaluru distirct), a labourer from Kerala was caught under the mud and died.
“I’ve had discussions with the rain-affected district Deputy Commissioners. Already, rescue efforts have begun and I’ve been instructed to assist in relief. “Houses and properties were damaged in Kodagu’s coastal districts, as well as Kodagu,” said Chief Minister Basavaraj Bombmai on Wednesday.
