Today, at least 15 people are killed by a cloudburst near Amarnath (Jammu and Kashmir). Operational rescue operations are in progress. Cloudburst is an excessive amount of rainfall in a very short time. Sometimes it is accompanied with hail or thunder. This can create flood conditions.
A representative of the administrative unit said that Amarnath yatra had been in progress since June 30th. It was suspended after the tragedy. The decision about its restart will come once rescue operations have concluded.
Officials on the ground reported that around 30-35 persons are still missing and five people have been rescued.
