Watch: Minister Assam turns boatman from ferryman to hospital in the flood

Assam ministers were seen boating down the flooded streets of the state facing the current flood waves that began nearly two weeks ago. Assam’s Minister of Transport, Parisal Suklabaidya, turned to the boat for patients who needed to go to the hospital for scheduled dialysis.

In a series of videos, Scrubabidia was seen walking on a wooden boat along the flooded streets of the Barak Valley.

The Brahmaputra and Barak rivers, and their tributaries, were flooded in most of the affected areas, leaving vast lands flooded in 32 of the 35 districts of the state. However, the flood water has receded in several places.

Some people were seen walking beside the boat, submerged in water to their knees.

The Minister of Transport is camping in Silchar, Cachar, and is monitoring flood conditions in the Barak Valley with the local MLA, Deputy Chief Cabinet Secretary, and senior officials from the three districts.

Flood conditions in Assam remained severe on Thursday, with Rs. 453,400 thousand still affected in 30 districts, officials said.
