Tezpur: A 42-year-old landless farmer from Bordubi in Terra Mara, Sonitopur district, was thankful and grateful when he left the Tezpur Cancer Center after consulting with a doctor at the Tezpur Cancer Center on Friday. I was full of feelings. He was the first patient at the Tezpur Cancer Center to launch OPD service today after being launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at a virtual ceremony from Dibrugarh on Thursday.
The farmer was diagnosed with a case of colon cancer and underwent surgery at the B Borooah Cancer Institute in 2021. He is the only earning member of a family of his mother, wife and two children. A landless peasant, he can no longer work because of fatigue. He was unable to go to Guwahati for further treatment due to severe financial constraints. He had to spend about 4,500 rupees per visit between evaluation and treatment. This used to be twice a week.
Today he was the first patient to be enrolled in the Tezpur Cancer Center and only had to pay the Rs.10 amount to enroll. His examination fee was exempted and the medicine was provided free of charge. He has received the necessary consultation and plans for further treatment. His future treatment costs will be borne by Atal Amrit Abhiyan / Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana. He thanked him for not having to go to Guwahati for treatment.
Tezpur’s L3 Center is a day care center for patients who do not require hospitalization or surgery and require treatment with radiation therapy or chemotherapy. The center’s doctors accompanied the center’s 11 patients on the first day of opening.
The center is equipped with all the latest diagnostic equipment such as X-rays, mammography, CT scans, MRI and bronchoscopy, as well as a hematology and biochemistry laboratory for testing blood and urine. Cancer patients will be able to receive radiation and chemotherapy within Tezpur, eliminating the need to go out of the district for treatment. Radiation therapy is equipped with the world’s most advanced brachytherapy and LINAC units today, with ample infrastructure to administer chemotherapeutic agents.
