Guwahati: Officials claim that 23 Assamans have died from Japanese Encephalitis since April of this year.
It has been a critical time for the state due to the rapid spread of Japanese Encephalitis (a mosquito-borne brain infection).
The National Health Mission of Assam reports that 23 deaths have been recorded in Assam since April from Flavivirus, a virus which can infect humans and animals.
In the last 24 hours, four people–two each from the flood-hit Morigaon and Nalbari districts– have died in the state due to the infection, taking the death toll to 23.
NHM reported that there were at most 16 cases of Japanese Encephalitis in New Hampshire in the 24 hours preceding the incident.
These new cases included four in Nagaon and three in Udalguri. There were also two each in Sivasagar. One each was found in Barpeta (Metro), Karbi Anglong East or the Hojai District.
Up to now, there have been 160 cases in the entire state of Japanese Encephalitis.
The State Health Department directed every district to establish a Rapid Response Team for Japanese Encephalitis (JE), and Acute Encephalitis Syndrome (AES) as per the State Health Department’s instructions.
