Assam Cabinet grants 4% employment reservations to people with benchmark disabilities

The State Cabinet made this decision at a meeting held on May 7 under the chair of CM Himanta Biswa Sarma.

This initiative follows the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities 2016, and the rules were drafted by the Government of India in 2017.

The benefits of such bookings were previously limited to promotions only in Grade III and IV posts. However, it has now been extended to all posts, including Grades I and II.

Meanwhile, the Cabinet has also approved Mission Bhumiputra, a new scheme to simplify the process of obtaining caste certificates for SC, ST, OBC and MOBC. All caste certificate applications can now be submitted through a single application, which will be issued digitally and stored in the DigiLocker notified to Assam CM.

The state government has also announced special recruitment activities for government jobs for 84 ex-employees of Hindustan Paper Corporation Limited (HPCL).

Salma added that a new multi-specialty hospital will be established in partnership with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT Guwahati) and other charities.
