Two feared criminals were killed by police at Cachar

SILCHAR: Police from Cachar killed two terrorized criminals during an encounter on Saturday near Digorkhal, along the Assam–Meghalaya border.

Cachar Superintendent for Police (SP), Ramandeep Kaur informed this by stating in a press conference on Sunday that another member of the gang is still under police control. Silchar police were escorting the gang back from Jorabat. The three suspects, who are wanted in numerous cases, including robbery and snatching, were taken into custody on Saturday. The victims of the confrontation were Kamrul Islam Barbhuiyan, alias Lokai from Syedpur, and Abul Hossain Barbhuiyan, alias Abu in Awliyabazar.

Kaur claimed that on June 30, there was an attack in Awaliya Bazar. Silchar Sadar police registered a case. Investigation revealed the firearm fight stemmed from a property issue. The incident involved Abu and two other men who were heading toward Meghalaya. A police unit led by OC Sinchar pursued the gang. However, the operation was halted due to landslide at Jowai Badarpur. Silchar Police notified their Meghalaya counterparts.

Jorabat police intercepted Saturday’s car that carried Abu, Lokai, Anowar Hussain and Barbhuiyan, then turned it over to Silchar officers. Kaur stated that three of the miscreants were being driven back to Silchar by two vehicles. Lokai was able to jump and start running after the vehicles slowed at a gate. The police tried to stop the cars and fired one time at them. Lokai, Abu both sustained serious injuries. Both were taken first to Kalain Public Health Centre. The injuries to their bodies were so severe that they had to be referred to Silchar Medical College and Hospital.
