Toxic Gas Leak In Jordan Leaves 12 Dead And Hundreds Injured

Video show Toxic gas leak at Jordan port kills 12 people

Authorities said a crane loaded a chlorine tank on a ship in Jordan’s port of Aqaba dropped one of them on Monday, causing a toxic yellow smoke to explode, killing 12 people and injuring more than 250. Due to a crane failure, the storage container fell during transportation.

CCTV footage of the incident showed that the container was lifted into the air and then suddenly fell into a ship and exploded. Large clouds of bright yellow gas can be seen spreading all over the ground. Harbor workers are also seen scrambling to escape toxic smoke.

“At just 15:15 pm this afternoon, a chlorine gas leak occurred at the port of Aqaba as a result of the fall and explosion of a tank containing this substance,” the government’s Crisis Management Office said in a statement. ..
