Ukiam villagers protest against new chief

Ukiam village is one of the tourist attractions of Assam. Former chief Shambarin Marak has recently retired from his job. The state government then appointed a new chief on May 25. Later, a team from the village of Ukiam met with the Deputy Chief Cabinet Secretary of the Kamlap district, who submitted a memorandum of understanding to DC. Villagers claimed that the newly appointed chief did not belong to the village of Ukiam. Many locals in Ukiam village have applied for the post. So they demanded that DC take the necessary actions.

According to locals, DC immediately forwarded the problem to the ADC and took the necessary steps, but nothing has happened so far. Resmini Marak of Ukiam claimed that the newly appointed chief lives in another village about 15 km from Ukiam. If something happened in Ukiam village, he wouldn’t be present to handle the situation on time, Malak said.

On the other hand, if the villager needs the chief’s certificate, he must travel to the chief’s village far from Ukiam. As a result, villagers in the Ukiam region are opposed to the newly appointed chief. They urged the Deputy Chief Cabinet Secretary to resolve this issue as soon as possible.
