U.S. accuses Israeli police of violence at the funeral of a journalist in Al Jazeera

Secretary of State Antony Blinken said the United States “has serious problems” after the Israeli police invaded Friday at the funeral of the killing of Palestinian-American reporter Sirine Abu Acre.

“It was very difficult to see Israeli police invading her burial today,” Blinken said in a statement.

“Every family deserves to be able to rest their loved ones in a dignified, unhindered way,” he said.

“We work closely with Israeli and Palestinian responders and call on everyone to stay calm and avoid actions that could further exacerbate tensions.”

White House spokesman Jen Psaki had previously called the image “clearly deeply disturbing” and expressed “regret” for the invasion, without explicitly blaming US ally Israel.
