The Top Bureaucrats Are Suspended in the Glare of Delhi Liquor Policy

The Union Home Ministry suspended two senior bureaucrats Monday amid a wider probe and an intense BJP vs AAP battle over Delhi’s liquor sales policy. This has also ensnared Deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia.

After Vinai Kumar Saxena cleared the move, Arava Gopi Krishna, then the Excise Commissioner, and Anand Tiwari, the Deputy Commissioner, were both suspended.

He had already ordered discipline proceedings against eleven officers for their “serious errors” in relation to the Delhi Excise Policy 2021-22 within a few months of his takingover the post.

In the midst of a heated dispute between the Delhi government and the Lieutenant Governor’s Office over liquor sales policies, Mr Saxena approved suspensions of 11 Excise officers, including Mr Tiwari and Mr Krishna, on August 6.

Indian Administrative Services (IAS), officer Mr. Krishna was Excise Commissioner at the time the policy was created and then implemented. As the Deputy Commissioner, Mr Tiwari was a Delhi and Nicobar Islands Civil Service Officer (DANICS).
