Three of a family killed by wild elephants in Udalguri district

Three family members were attacked by wild elephants at Udalguri.

However, some elephants walked up to the family and shot them. Nizara Basumatary (7 years old) was rescued by the family. The locals believe that the wild elephants come to villages in search for food. In response to this incident, All Bodo Student Union (ABSU), urged state governments to assume responsibility. ABSU also called on the state forest department to recognize the elephant buffer zones around the villages and to provide protection in order to reduce man-elephant conflict. In Goalpara district earlier, in an incident similar to the Independence Day celebrations in which three people were attacked by wild elephants, they killed them all. (IANS)
