The United Nations states that a third evacuation operation is underway in Mariupol, Ukraine.

A third operation is underway to evacuate civilians from the Ukrainian port city of Mariupol and the besieged Azovstal ironworks, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres told the UN Security Council Thursday.

The United Nations and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) have so far helped nearly 500 civilians flee the region in two operations over the past week. Guterres refused to reveal details of the new operation “to avoid compromising the chances of success.”

“We hope that continued coordination between Moscow and Kyiv will lead to a more humane suspension to help civilians pass safely from combat and reach those in critical need. “Masu,” he told the Security Council of 15 members. “We must continue to do everything we can to get people out of these hellish landscapes.”
