The postmaster of Madhya Pradesh is said to have lost one rupee savings for 20 families in a bet on the Indian Premier League (IPL) cricket match. Family money was to be deposited at a sub-post office in the Sagar district.
Vishal Ahirwar, the postmaster of the Bina Sub Post Office, was arrested by the Bina Government Railway Police (GRP) on May 20. He reportedly confessed to the police about the crime.
According to police, the accused postmaster has issued a genuine passbook for fake FD accounts and has put the entire amount into IPL cricket betting over the last two years.
“The arrested postmaster Vishal Ahirwar is currently booked for 420 IPC (fraud) and 408 IPC (criminal breach of trust). Based on the results of further investigation, we may add more sections to the case. You can, “said Ajay Durb, responsible for the Bina-GRP police station.
