Team Thackeray's New Supreme Court Challenge For Eknath Shinde Government

Uddhav Thackeray, a Shiv Sena faction, has approached the Supreme Court to protest Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Sing Koshyari’s decision to invite Eknath Shikde to become the government of the state.

Subhash Desai, a leader of Team Thackeray has challenged Monday’s assembly proceedings that saw the Maharashtra Chief Minister pass a test to determine if he is a majority.

Thackeray faction claims that sixteen rebel MLAs, against whom disqualification proceedings were ongoing, should not have taken part in the election.

Uddhav Thackeray and his team have initiated new disqualification proceedings against rebel MLAs that voted in assembly elections for a Speaker, as well as in the test to determine majority. The Shinde team has moved for a motion of no confidence against Rahul Narvekar, the new Speaker. Subhash Desai asks for the Supreme Court’s decision on whether MLAs should be disqualified.

Eknath Shinde was supported by the BJP and led a coup against Uddhav Thackeray in the Shiv Sena. He won most of the MLAs to his cause, and brought down his government.
