Security Stepped Up At Delhi Borders Ahead Of Farmers' Protest

The security measures at Singhu-Ghazipur Borders on Delhi-Meerut Expressway were increased by Delhi Police Monday ahead of the farmers’ demonstration at Jantar Mantar. Barricades have been erected at the Singhu border at North West Delhi and Ghazipur.

An earlier announcement by the Samyukt Kisan Morcha – an umbrella group of farmers – had made the start of its 75-hour sit down in Lakhimpur Kheri, Uttar Pradesh on Thursday. This was to make their demands known.

SKM comprises around 40 farming organizations. It is a umbrella organization that demands proper implementation and support for crop prices.

Bharatiya Kisan Union leader Rakesh Takait, a Telangana leader joined the New Delhi protest by Telangana leaders against Centre’s paddy procurement policies. He said there was a need to organize another protest.
