Assam Man Kills Father After Dispute Over Cigarette: Police

Northeast Protests against CAA Begin After a 2-Year Gap

Protests in support of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (or CAA) returned today to Northeast after almost two years. The All Assam Students Union organized a protest against CAA. However, protests were held by the North East Students Organisation (NESO), which took place across the region.

However, AASU activists couldn’t organize a rally against the police today.

Assam saw its first anti CAA demonstrations in 2019 and they continued through 2020, when COVID-19 became a pandemic.

According to reports, more demonstrations will be held in the days ahead in order to raise awareness about the current situation in northeastern countries.

Other major concerns are: Attempting to find a permanent solution for illegal immigration, the implementation of Assam Accord and dealing with jihadi terrors, the withdrawal of Armed Forces Special Powers Acts (AFSPAs) from northeastern countries, and the promulgation inner-line permit rules in Assam Meghalaya, Tripura, and Meghalaya are all issues being protested.
