Prostitution racket busted in Digboi; 7 arrested by Police

Seven people were arrested in Digboi for a prostitution racket

DIGBOI: Seven people were detained by Digboi Police on Thursday in connection to a prostitution ring. This included the owner of Digboi Tourist Lodge located in Tinsukia.

The raid on the lodge that had been rumored to have become a hub for prostitution resulted in seven minors being rescued, while the other three girls were said to be adult women hailing from Dibrugarh and Tinsukia districts.

The Tinsukia team raided the licensed shop centre along National Highway 52B in Digboi Golai at night. Six customers were taken from the two rooms in which they were located.

Pankaj Baruah, who is the lodge’s owner, was arrested Thursday for operating a sex racket. Baruah is one of the most prominent businessmen in Digboi. He runs several hotels across Assam. After obtaining a license from Assam Tourism, Baruah has operated the trade at a beautiful location that shares a border with DPS Boys’ Hostel on the other side.

Asif Ansari, Margherita station Para (24) and Bijoy Skar Agarwal (44) were arrested. Jalal Uddin Tulukdar (40), of Khonsa Lower market. Arif Shah (20), of Margherita Ledu. Ansar A (20) was from Margherita Ledu. Ajay Munda (25) is Dorjugaon Kasiranga.

Digboi PS Case No. 129/22 u/s370 a/372/373/376 iii/109 IPC (r/w 4 POSCOAct) The accused were taken to jail Thursday. The network that was involved in the horrific act of flesh trading is being investigated. However, they are still under investigation.
