On Backing Eknath Shinde, Maharashtra BJP Chief's "Heavy Heart" Remark

On Saturday, Maharashtra BJP Chief Chandrakant Patil stated that the party had decided with a heavy heart to have Eknath Shinde (rebel Shiv Sena leader) as the chief minister of the state instead Devendra Fadnavis.

At Panvel near Mumbai, he stated that the decision had been taken to send the right signal.

Surprise! The BJP was the largest party in Maharashtra Assembly. It announced on June 30, that Mr Shinde (who had split Sena and toppled Uddhav Thackeray’s government) would become Chief Minister.

We had to find a leader that would communicate the right message, and provide stability. With a heavy heart, the central leadership and Devendra-ji voted to support Eknath Shindu as Chief Minister. “We were disappointed, but we decided to accept it,” said Mr Patil.

It was anticipated that Mr Fadnavis will become Chief Minister after the Uddhav Thackeray government fell due to rebellion led by 40 Shiv Sena MLAs.
