North Hills Indigenous Students Forum requests submission of Compensation Estimate Bills
HALONG: The NC Hills Indigenous Students Forum (NCHISF), requested that the National Highway Commission immediately submit the estimated bills of compensation (Nrimbanglo Harangajao), and any other issues related to National Highways. They also asked for financial assistance to families affected by the heavy rains.
According to them, the Assam Government held a meeting at Janata Bhavan in Dispur under the Chairmanship of the Chief Minister. In the meeting, the Chief Minister had directed the Principal Secretary, Home & Political Department and the Special Commissioner & Secretary PWD (B&NH) to take up the compensation matter with the Principal Secretary, NC Hills Autonomous Council, for immediate submission of proposal of compensation estimates to the Regional Office NHAI for payment of necessary compensation. Despite their numerous pleas to authorities, they have not taken any action in the six months since.
NCHISF asked for submission of NH-54E compensatory estimate bills to NHAI within fifteen days. It also requested immediate release financial aid to families whose houses were damaged or destroyed by landslides/floods from heavy rain.
David Keivom of NCHISF spoke with the media. He stated that if they don’t get their demands met in 15 days, then they will have to resort to agitation. This would prevent any work to be done on NH from Nriambanglo Harangajao.
