Lanka Ex Minister Basil Rajapaksa Tried To Flee, Flyers Objected: Sources

Basil Rajapaksa (ex-finance minister of Sri Lanka) tried to flee Dubai in protests but was stopped by airport personnel who identified him. Immigration officers also refused to allow him to leave the country, according to sources.

A source claimed that Mr Rajapaksa was the brother of Lanka President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and tried to flee the country through the VIP terminal at Colombo’s international airport. However, people recognized him and opposed him leaving, the source added.

Images circulated widely, whose authenticity Bibarud is unable to verify, feature the ex-minister in the airport lounge.

Sources said that he arrived at the airport check-in desk around 12.15 AM and remained there until 3.15 AM, as immigration officers refused to let him go. The sources said that after being refused clearance by immigration officials, he was forced to exit the airport.

According to the Sri Lanka Immigration and Emigration Officers Association, members of their association declined to provide Basil Rajapaksa with a meal at the Colombo VIP departure lounge.
