Land acquisition in Kokrajhar area has been suspended
KOKRAJHAR: Acquired 36 Biga lands under Doug No. 497 belonging to the Boro tribe of Chandamari in Kokrjhar by the district administration for the construction of a new circuit house was temporarily suspended due to fierce opposition from different districts. Tribal villagers protested the move and decided to move the Gauhati High Court.
Messages of land acquisition on tribal lands came from various media, forcing local MLA Lawrence Switzerland and BTC Pramodboro CEMs to visit the proposed locations for derailment.
Local MLA Lawrence Islay spoke with media outlets on Sunday to ask questions about the issue and to discuss with the district administration, but said the acquisition of tribal land was not final. He said the necessary land would be acquired in the appropriate areas, but not in the ancient tribal lands. He also promised the villagers to discuss this issue with BTC authorities.
Meanwhile, the CEM of BTC Pramodboro said some news about the acquisition of land for the construction of a new circuit house came to light, but the location was uncertain. He said many government projects could come and the government has its own land for construction. He said some people were trying to misunderstand the villagers and such misleading information could create unnecessary situations. He called on the villagers to prevent the government from acquiring tribal inheritance.
