Jharkhand Suspends Bureaucrat Accused Of Sexually Harassing IIT Scholar

The Jharkhand authorities on Friday suspended Indian Administrative Service officer Syed Riaz Ahmed, who was arrested for allegedly sexually harassing a trainee Indian Institute of Know-how scholar.

Mr Ahmed, the Sub-Divisional Justice of the Peace (SDM) of Khunti, was arrested on Tuesday and despatched to judicial custody for 2 weeks after the engineering scholar filed a police criticism in opposition to him.

“Chief Minister Hemant Soren has given route to droop Syed Riaz Ahmed, posted as SDM Khunti. The SDM was charged with sexual harassment case,” a press release issued by the Chief Minister’s Workplace stated.

Mr Ahmed is going through expenses below IPC sections 354 (assault or prison power to girl with intent to outrage her modesty), 354A (sexual harassment) and 509 (phrase, gesture or act supposed to insult the modesty of a girl), police stated.

A courtroom on July 5 remanded the officer to judicial custody for 14 days.
