India Test-Launch BrahMos Extended Range Missile from Sukhoi Fighter

An extended range version of the BrahMos supersonic missile has been successfully test-launched from the Su-30MKI fighter today.

“The launch from the aircraft was on schedule and the missile hit a designated target in the Bay of Bengal directly,” the Ministry of Defense said in a statement.

Bramos missiles fly at a speed of 2.8 Mach or almost three times the speed of sound.

It can be seen that the range of advanced versions of the missile has been extended from the original 290km to about 350km.

This was the first instance of an extended range version of a missile launched from a Su-30MKI aircraft. Coupled with the high performance of the Su-30MKI aircraft, the missile’s extended range capabilities give the Indian Air Force strategic reach and allow it to dominate the battlefield of the future.
