In Gujarat, Arvind Kejriwal Announces Year-Long "Jobs Calendar"
Arvind Kehriwal, Delhi Chief Minister of Aam Aadmi Party, today announced a Gujarat Jobs Calendar — a state that the BJP has ruled for close to 30 years. Elections are scheduled in Gujarat by the end of the year. If elected to power, the AAP government would hold exams, including those for Panchayati positions, teachers, and state police officers, and recruit. A job quota was also announced by him for Gujaratis. He said that Army recruits, which are now a very short-service program, will be fixed. He stated that 80 percent of the private jobs would be filled by people employed by the state.
Giving the example of Punjab, where AAP has formed government after a massive mandate earlier this year, Mr Kejriwal said, “We changed Delhi, we’re changing Punjab, and now we’ll change Gujarat… The job allocation process will start within the first year of government formation”.
AAP accused Gujarat’s BJP government not only of failing to meet key human indices such as education and healthcare, but also of failing to create jobs.
If the party is elected to power, it has pledged to provide 10 lakh jobs within five years. The party promised that it would give an allowance of Rs. 3,000 for the unemployed until the creation of jobs is completed.
Concerning the allowance Mr Kejriwal stated that funds are always available. “We’ll get money to create job opportunities by ending two scams,” Kejriwal said.
Employment is the biggest issue facing Gujarati youth. Manish Sisodia (Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi), a top leader in the party, said there were jobs. However, people are making rackets rather than filling government positions. At a Townhall held in Bhavnagar, Sisodia stated that Delhi had given 10 lakh job opportunities via government schemes and two lakh to government employees.
