"I Follow Mamata Banerjee": Trinamool's Mahua Moitra On Unfollowing Party
Mahua Motra of Trinamool Congress – whose decision to not follow her party’s Twitter account over controversy surrounding her remarks about Kali as a’meat-eating’ and ‘alcohol-accepting goddess’ made headlines on Wednesday – told Bibarud that the matter was “between me and the party”. She stated that she is following Mamata Banerjee as her party leader, and the matter will be resolved in the proper forum. There was also a rider.
I am a loyal soldier for the party, and Mamata Banerjee. But it is a struggle between the BJP’s monolithic patriarchal homogenous Hinduism idea and my own. And anyone telling me “Mahua doesn’t get into this” is feeding the BJP frenzy. She said that she was standing firm against it in an exclusive interview on Wednesday with Bibarud.
Recent interview with Ms. Moitra stated that she was free to envision Goddess Kali eating meat and drinking alcohol as her god. Every person is entitled to worship God as they see fit. Her remarks caused outrage, and leaders of the Bengal BJP called for her arrest. However, her party, the ruling Trinamool Congress in Bengal, distanced itself away from the scandal.
“The comments made by @MahuaMoitra at the #IndiaTodayConclaveEast2022 and her views expressed on Goddess Kali have been made in her personal capacity and are NOT ENDORSED BY THE PARTY in ANY MANNER OR FORM. All India Trinamool Congress condemns these comments,” said the party. Ms Moitra then unfollowed that party handle.
