DIBRUGARH: Members of the Dibrugarh College Submit Graduate College students’ Union (DUPGSU) staged a starvation strike within the College premises on Thursday in protest in opposition to the Dibrugarh College’s choice to hike the charges of its programs for the educational session 2022-23.

Dibrugarh College in a notification on August 23 had introduced a hike within the annual charges for its Arts, Science and Commerce streams. It hiked the annual charges for Arts and Commerce stream from Rs 4,489 to Rs 5982 and Science stream from Rs 6,913 to Rs 9,194 for the educational session 2022-23 triggering robust protests from the Dibrugarh college scholar group. Bikash Misong, president of the Dibrugarh College Submit Graduate College students’ Union mentioned,

“We have now been on protest because the final three days and it’ll proceed till the Dibrugarh College authorities reverses its choice of a charge hike. Dibrugarh College receives sufficient funds from the UGC and authorities to perform easily. The federal government is speaking about free schooling and Dibrugarh College is resorting to a charge hike which is a pure anti-student coverage.”

On Wednesday, Dibrugarh College Vice-Chancellor Jiten Hazarika in a press meet justified the choice of charges hike citing rising prices and inflation whereas including that the identical will probably be utilized for infrastructure growth and analysis works of the college.
