Haryana BJP's IT Cell In-Charge Removed For Controversial Tweets

Arun Yadav (the Information Technology Chief of the BJP’s Haryana Unit) was fired by the party Thursday amid increasing calls to have him arrested for his controversial tweets about Muslims and Islam.

Arun Yadav is facing an increasing backlash over his posts on social media. Many have compared his inability to respond with Mohammed Zubair (co-founder of Alt News fact-checking site), who was arrested for a tweet he posted in 2018.

Twitter’s top trend #ArrestArunYadav featured tweets from May 2017 to Thursday that were shared thousands of times.

Many claimed the lenience displayed to Mr Yadav was comparable to that given for Nupur Sharma, a former spokesperson of BJP. She caused a major outcry by her remarks on Prophet Muhammad in a TV debate. However, she hasn’t been subjected as much punishment as Mr Zubair.

According to Haryana officials, Mr Yadav has not been charged with any crime and the BJP will continue to expel him.
