Kokrajhar District launches free Covid vaccinations for the 18-59 age bracket

KOKRAJHAR: Friday’s free Covid-19 booster vaccination campaign was launched by the Kokrajhar District Administration to commemorate the 75th Anniversary of India’s Independence.

Kokrajhar Deputy Chief Commissioner Varnali Devika launched the program by lighting a lamp on the office premises of the Deputy Collector. He was joined by Additional Deputy Commissioners and Joint Director Health Services.

Varnali, the Kokrajhar deputy commissioner, said at a press conference that, in accordance with new government guidelines, arrangements were made to offer the third dose (precaution dosis) of Covid-19 free-of-cost to people between 18 and 59. This will be available for seventy days from the July 15th health centers and government Covid-19 vaccination clinics.

The booster dose was previously given to those at high risk, health care workers, and frontline workers. All people between 18 and59 can now get vaccines if they have received the second dose within six months of the updated guidelines. “Everyone can now get the booster dose or the third dose up to six months after their last dose,” she stated.

Today, there are 145 centers instead of 80 in the existing district. She stated that 5,81,201 people had received the first vaccine and 4,56.194 have been given the second. A third dose will be administered to the area.

She said campaign activities had been intensified, Miking arrangements made and awareness has been raised at VCDC level. Information regarding masks and social distancing, as well as other Covid-19 protocol, have been shared via social media.
