Eminent Assam Author Atulananda Goswami Dies At 87

Sahitya Akademi Award-winning litterateur Atulananda Goswami, identified for his novels and brief tales, died at a hospital in Guwahati on Wednesday, household sources stated. He was 87.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, amongst others, condoled the litterateur’s demise.

Goswami was within the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Gauhati Medical Faculty and Hospital (GMCH) for about 10 days, the place he breathed his final on Wednesday morning.

The creator’s daughter stated, “We had taken him to GMCH as he was working a fever. He was instantly admitted to the ICU. He was affected by dementia for a number of years. He later developed sepsis.” His final rites have been carried out by his son on the Navagraha crematorium in Guwahati.

Goswami’s spouse had predeceased him and he leaves behind his youngsters, grandchildren and a number of kin.

Broadly identified for his novel ‘Namghoria’ written within the early Nineties, Goswami acquired the Sahitya Akademi Award in 2006 for his brief story assortment ‘Seneh Jarir Ganthi’.
