"Do not accept center dictation": Assam MLA warns BJP about citizenship law

The day after Federal Interior Minister Amit Shah said in West Bengal that the center would implement the Civil Rights Amendment Act (CAA) as soon as the ongoing coronavirus pandemic ended, Assam activists turned to politicians and Akil.・ Gogoi threatened the ruling party BJP at the center. He will go out to the streets again in protest with his supporters. Gogoi, who is also an independent MLA, said people would never accept this “anti-people” law.

“The Assamese will not accept this dictation of the CAA center,” he told Bibarud, calling it a “radical act” that “Assam has no place.”

The fiery peasant leader warned the BJP that he should be aware that there is unity between all sections of those who oppose the CAA.

“We’re on the streets. If the center actually does, my party Raijor Dal will lead a new protest against the CAA. This is anti-People’s law. I will not accept any dictation about the CAA. I would like to reiterate, “he said.

Gogoy made the headline by leading a large-scale protest against the controversial civil rights law in Assam. He was arrested in 2019 in connection with a fierce protest in the state and charged under the strict counterterrorism law UAPA. He was detained for over a year and a half before being elected to the Legislature as an MLA.
