DIBRUGARH: Awareness-raising program on “Gender Identity and Sexuality: Queer Perspective” was held on May 23 by student members of the Responsible Anthropology Student (RAS) of the Faculty of Anthropology, Dibrugarh Hanumanbax Surajmall Kanoi (DHSK) University. The co-founder of Drishti Rituparna Neog was invited as a resource person for the program.

Ritzparna quoted two of her own poems that talked about her self-acceptance. She also talked about how Ritzparna looks like the struggle for self-acceptance as a member of the queer community and the lifelong struggle of transgender people in families, educational institutions, workplaces and societies. Through her lectures, Ritzparna emphasized the importance of variability among individuals and the inclusiveness and safe space for queer-identified children in educational facilities. Ritzparna also asked the principal to build a gender-neutral toilet at the university.

Dr. Sashi Kanta Saikia, Principal of DHSK College, Dr. Priyadev Goswami, Vice-Principal, and various faculties participated in the program. In addition to the hundreds of students from the host university, students from nearby universities and Dibrugarh University also actively participated in the awareness program.
