DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta inaugurates Doomdooma Police Station building
DOOMDOOMA. On Wednesday, Bhaskar Jiyoti Madanta (Director General of Police) inaugurated Doomdooma Police Station (PS), a newly built building in the framework of the ‘Mission For Overall Improvement of Thana to Responsive Image (MOITRI) scheme.
It was built at an estimated cost of Rs 2.43 Crore and features all modern amenities like a solar panel on the roof, a creche area for infants and a reception desk with waiting room. DGP Mahanta, President, Tinsukia Zila Xahitya Xabha, addressed the opening function. He said that there would be 100 of these police station buildings in Assam under MOITRI. The importance of police-public relations was stressed by Mahanta. He stated that the department would introduce a service delivery system in which police personnel could deliver to their homes items like Post Mortem, Accident reports and other critical documents to people who are most vulnerable. An amount of Rs. The Officer-in-charge for each PS would get 2.5 lakh. The Superintendent of Police (SP), of each police district, would also receive financial assistance.
The DGP also suggested that training would be given to enhance the writing of case diary to make the trials fair and deliver justice. DGP disclosed that, while crime is decreasing in this post-COVID state, suicides have been increasing rapidly. He pointed out, for instance, that suicide rates rose by 50 percent in 2022 as compared with 2021. In the same vein, he was concerned about increasing incidents of child abuse and sexual harassment.
To increase the police force’s capacity, he stated that Outpost would be made PS. Also, in light of the ever-increasing traffic at Doomdooma PS, he promised to authorize a Doomdooma PS traffic division in accordance with public demand. He was overjoyed to be felicitated by numerous socio-cultural organisations. The DGP also promised to protect the Doomdooma PS Building that was once part of Ahom’s fortifications as a heritage site.
Tinsukia Police Chief Debajit Deori greeted the guests. J Doley (Deputy Inspector General), NE Region made a short speech stating that there was concern for the administration and police as well as the threat of insurgency.
