Cattle vaccination drive under Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve

Disclosing this information, KNP & TR Director Jatin Sharma stated that intensive immunization of cattle has been carried out in the park’s Kohora, Bokahat Chapoli, Brapahar, Agratri and Laokowa areas. He said veterinary officers, FVO and BVO, with the support of NGOs such as the Corbett Foundation, Bhumi and Aaranyak, are conducting vaccination drives. “10,935 cattle and 511 buffaloes covering 2,275 households in 62 surrounding villages were vaccinated until Saturday,” Sharma added. The director of the park said that promoting vaccination of cattle is to prevent diseases such as HS (hemorrhagic septicemia), BQ (blackleg) and FMD (foot-and-mouth disease). “Cow enters KNP & TR and grabs and contacts wildlife. The only way to check for the spread of the disease is through such a vaccination drive,” said a park official.
