Assam: Three coal miners killed in unlawful rate-hole mine at Ledo

Dibrugarh: Three coal miners have been killed on Sunday evening in an unlawful rat-hole mine at Ledo in Tinsukia district alongside the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border after allegedly inhaling poisonous fuel.

Tinsukia Superintendent of Police (SP) Debojit Deuri stated police have up to now arrested 5 individuals in reference to the incident. 

He added that inhalation of toxic fuel like methane is suspected to have precipitated the coal miners’ demise. 

The useless miners have been recognized as Sahidul Islam, Hussain Ali of Bongaigaon district and Hasmat Ali of Goalpara district. 

“The rat-hole mine was being run illegally on a distant hilltop. The incident happened at round 8.30 pm on Sunday when the miners entered the mine to extract coal. We suspect there was leakage of toxic fuel like methane contained in the mine inflicting their deaths. We now have arrested 5 individuals as they have been making an attempt to bury the our bodies and hush up the incident. We’ll take stringent motion in opposition to any such unlawful coal mining actions. The autopsy will probably be carried out on the our bodies earlier than they’re handed over to their respective households,” SP Deuri instructed Northeast Now.

A case of homicide, felony conspiracy, theft, inflicting disappearance of proof below sections 302, 120B, 201 and 379 of the IPC has been registered and additional investigation is underway, he stated.

Sources stated the unlawful rat-hole mine is operated by one David Haseng, a resident of Arunachal Pradesh.

The three miners have been delivered to Ledo by one Joynal Ali who acted because the provider of employees.

“Unlawful rat-hole mines have been mushrooming in Margherita and Ledo space of Tinsukia district. The coal smugglers in a really organized method are working the rate-hole mine in collusion with authorities officers.
