Assam: Several air guns belonging to suspected poachers recovered in Lakhimpur

Assam: Lakhimpur has several air guns that belong to poachers.

North LakhimpurThe Subansiri River in Lakhimpur was found to contain a large cache of air guns and a pistol. 

These guns were discovered in Alichinga at Panigaon Police Station on Friday evening. 

Seven guns total were found on the banks the Subansiri River on Friday night, while two additional were discovered on Saturday.

A gun barrel was first discovered by two youths in the river. They checked it and found seven guns, including air rifles as well as a pistol.

After the search, officers found two more firearms at the scene. 

Later, the guns that were recovered were sent to North Lakhimpur Sadar Police Station where they will be investigated. 

Locals believe these guns may have been used to poach birds.

Lakhimpur SP Bedanta Rajkhowa confirmed that the guns recovered were most likely belonging to bird hunters. 

After recent arrests by poachers from the area, he said the hunters may have dumped the animals.
