Lachit Basumatary (Block Elementary Education Officer) from Rani, Kamrup, accepted a bribe to process a transfer request for a teacher on August 18.

According to sources, Basumatary was arrested after the husband of the teacher in question lodged a complaint with the V&AC that the BEEO had demanded a bribe for processing pending transfer-related work.

Basumatary and the BEEO were therefore set traps. Basumatary was then caught in the BEEO’s office with the amount of the bribe.
