Assam Man Dresses Up As Lord Shiva In Street Play On Price Rise, Detained

Today, an Assam man was taken into custody after being accused of hurting religious feelings during street plays in which he dressed up as Lord Shiva.

Birinchi bore the role of Lord Shiva while she performed a skit along with a female actor (who was dressed as Parvati) in protest at rising prices under Narendra Modi’s government. Their videos were shared widely on social media.

They were however criticised by Hindu groups, such as Vishwa Hindu Pajahad and Bajrang Dal. These Hindu groups held protests against the act, and then filed a complaint accusing him of using religion for political purposes and hurting religious sentiments.

Birinchi Boora was arrested following the complaint and transported to Nagaon Sadar Police Station.

Birinchi Bora (his co-actor Parishimita) was seen riding on a bike along a street. It appears that the vehicle ran out of fuel at the location for the street-play. Following an argument between Shiva & Parvati, ‘Shiva’ began attacking Modi over fuel price rises and other issues.
