Assam: Jatiya Sangrami Sena Asom Lodge FIR Against Mahua Moitra for ‘Gogoi’ Remark
According to reports, Jatiya Sena Asom demanded an unconditional apology form Mahua Moitra because she used the term ‘Gogoi” in her tweet as a reference to sexual harassment.
According to the FIR, the group stated that they demand “It was observed by her (Moitra) tweet comment, she deliberately replaced the word sexual harassment by the word Mr Gogoi. This is clear intent to defame an established ethnic community in Assam. I therefore urge the law to ensure the integrity, respect, and sanctity of the Ahom community, and to bring Mohua Moitra into justice.”
Mahua Moitra previously wrote, “My first series of Twitter replacements for non-parliamentary words.” Banned word – Sexual Harassment Replacement – Mr Gogoi.”
In another tweet she mentioned “Just for the sanghis tweeting to claim I targeted all Gogoi’s.” Honourable MP, Rajya Sabha.”
Om Birla (the LS speaker) denies that any such changes have been made. Utpal Borpujari, noted Assamese National Film critic says she needs to apologize and clarify what she meant when she used the expression ‘Gogoi.
