Guwahati: Assam cupboard has accepted Rs 839.95 crore for the formation of 5 new Commando Battalions within the state.
The battalions can be stationed in susceptible areas and can enhance the Assam Police’s capabilities to fight crime and represent a key element of counterinsurgency operations.
Tourism Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah stated this whereas briefing the media after the assembly.
The 5 battalions can be arrange in Hailakandi, Karbi Anglong, Sivasagar, Biswanath and Tinsukia districts.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday in a tweet stated that this was amongst a number of different selections taken on the cupboard assembly pertaining to the creation of latest battalions, growing new ropeways, establishing Assam Advanced in Maharashtra, selling forensic schooling, easing norms for EWS candidates, safety of tenure of ward commissioner, and so on.
In June final 12 months, the Assam authorities determined to lift 10 new commando battalions on the traces of the Nationwide Safety Guard (NSG) to strengthen the state police in its battle towards crime.
