Assam: Another employee of the paper mill dies and tolls rise to 105

The deceased was identified as Koriman Basmatary, 57, a resident of Jazi Road in the Morigaon district, who reportedly died of cardiac arrest on Monday.

The Joint Action Committee for Official Unions (JACRU) said Basmatary suffered from serious heart disease but could not afford treatment due to lack of sufficient financial resources due to non-payment of salaries.

The Cachar paper mill in Panchgram, Hailakandi and the Nagaon paper mill in Jagiroad, Morigaon have not been functioning since October 2015 and March 2017, respectively.

The Assam government has agreed to release a rescue pack of 375 rupees for worker rescue operations, but JACRU said the rescue pack has not yet been released.
