Assam: 40 unique animals smuggled from Myanmar seized at Rangiya
Guwahati: The Assam police on Thursday seized 40 unique animals from two Delhi-registered SUVs at Rangiya in decrease Assam’s Kamrup district.
Police stated the animals have been transported within the two Toyota SUVs from the Mizoram-Myanmar border and have been certain for Siliguri in north Bengal by way of NH 31.
The seized animals embrace wallabies, unique chimpanzees, uncommon tortoises, and monkeys.
“Performing on a tip-off, Rangiya police intercepted the autos (registration numbers DL 8CAQ 9876 and DL 10CH 7924) and detained two individuals after discovering the uncommon animals packed in cages. Earlier in March, police seized macaws, silvery marmosets, and golden-headed tamarin – all unique animals from Brazil’s Amazon –in higher Assam’s Golaghat district. These animals have been smuggled from Myanmar by way of Moreh in Manipur.
