Amravati Murder: NIA Court Extended Custody of Accused Up to July 22

According to the National Investigation Agency (NIA), Friday’s murder of a Maharashtra pharmacist for allegedly supporting Nupur Sharm has “international ramifications”.

The court gave the NIA custody rights to seven of the accused in the case up until July 22.

Umesh Colhe was a doctor who was shot to death in Amravati, eastern Maharashtra, on June 21. According to police, he was murdered for supporting Nupur Sharma (suspended BJP leader)’s controversial statements about Prophet Mohammad.

This horrendous incident was the precursor to another similar murder in Udaipur.

Amravati police had taken the probe over and the NIA has brought them before the special court.
