AIADMK Tussle: Court Setback For OPS, Rival EPS Moves To Take Charge

AIADMK Tussle – Court Setback for OPS in Fight with EPS

In a setback for AIADMK leader O Panneerselvam or OPS, the Madras High Court on Monday gave its go-ahead to a crucial general council meeting to decide the future leadership structure of the party.

OPS filed a motion asking for a stay of the meeting being called by Edappady Palaniswami (also known as EPS). However, the court denied the plea. The meeting was to start at 9:15 AM, but the court issued its orders at 9 AM.

The meeting can be conducted in accordance with the law, the court said.

The 2500-plus members of the General Council voted in favor to reinstate the post as general secretary and abolish the dual-leadership model. O Paneerselvam is likely to be removed from his position of Treasurer.

The OPS camp argued that the coordinator and joint coordinator can call the meeting according to law. The meeting called by the Praesidium Chairman, who has just been appointed, is therefore technically illegal.
