Two Fake CBI officers Arrested for extorting money from Assam businessmen

Two Assam Police officers were arrested in Karimganj on Friday, allegedly pretending to be CBI officers and extorting money.

Rashid Ahmed, Dilwar Hussain, and Rashid Ahmed were arrested.

Partha Pratim das, Additional Superintendent Police Karimganj District, claimed that on August 18, they were received by a complain from a Patharkandi-based businessman.

A call had been made to the businessman, and the man pretending himself to be from CBI demanded Rs 2.25 lakh. We immediately tracked down the number of the mobile phone and started an operation to apprehend Rashid Ahmed and Dilwar Hussain. Rashid Ahmed used Dilwar Hussain’s mobile phone and impersonated himself to be a CBI officer,” said Mr Das.

A police case was filed against the couple. Additional investigation is ongoing.
