16 MPs Tell Uddhav Thackeray To Support NDA's President Pick: Sena MP

16 Shiv Sena MPs attended today’s meeting in Mumbai called by Uddhav Thackeray, former Chief Minister of Maharashtra. They asked for the support of Droupadi Murmu, NDA Presidential Candidate. Sena MP Gajanan Kirtikar stated to Bibarud, after the meeting, that all 16 members agreed Draupadi Murugu is a tribal woman. That’s why they should support her. Maharashtra is home to a large percentage of the tribal population.

The whip is not available, and there are no Presidential elections. MPs have the right to vote as they please.

The suggestion of Uddhav Thackeray loyalists by MPs could signal a change in party stance. As it stands, Uddhav Thackeray has supported Yashwant Sinha as the opposition candidate.

After the revolt by Eknath Shield, Mr Thackeray’s government collapsed last month, Mr Thackeray is trying hard for control over the party founded in his father Balasaheb Thackeray.

The move was seen by some as an attempt to shield the parliamentary party against the rift.
