One Dead and 6 missing as Himachal sees Flash Floods, Cloudbursts, Landslide

Shimla: A Shimla woman was killed by a landslide. Flash floods, a cloudburst, and flash flooding caused several people to be missing this morning in Himachal Pradesh. Since last night, the state has seen unrelenting rains.

Following a cloudburst, Malana in Kullu and Manikaran were cut off from the rest the state. Rescue efforts are ongoing. Officials said that six people were missing from the area.

India Meteorological Department’s (IMD), has foreseen heavy to very strong rainfalls in the state, with lightning and thunderstorms likely at certain locations on the lower and middle-hills. Thunderstorms have been forecast for high-altitude areas of the state.

A woman was killed in a landslide that occurred near Shimla’s Dhalli tunnel. Two other people, one man and one woman were also injured. Sources say that the victims were migrant workers who had been sleeping under a tent on the roadside when it happened. Sources say that the victims were migrant workers and they have been transported to Indira Gandhi Hospital/Medical College for treatment. The debris also damaged some vehicles.

In the meantime, reports of flash flooding in Kullu-Kinnaur have been received.
